MMA or Mixed Martial Arts is one of today’s most popular combat sports in the market. And because of its popularity, many brands of clothing lines in the market today were introduced to compliment the growing popularity of MMA in the sporting industry and in the market. Here are some of the most popular brands of MMA clothing lines available today:

Tapout

Tapout is one of the most popular brands of MMA clothing lines in the market today. Part of what made the brand popular is because it was one of the few brands that popularized MMA in the US and of the rest of the world.

It was founded by Charles Lewis, Jr. (also known as “Mask”) and Dan Caldwell (also known as “Punkass”) founded in 1997 in San Bernardino, California. And since its foundation, Tapout had continuously grown more popular in the market, particularly when the brand started to appear in UFC or the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the first organization that introduced MMA in the US.

Cage Fighter

Cage Fighter Clothing is one of the many brands acquired by MMA Authentics, which is another popular brand of MMA clothing line the market. Like many other MMA clothing lines, Cage Fighter Clothing also specializes in providing some of the most authentic MMA combat shirts and shorts in the market. Start your own wholesale mma clothing business with Sevenwholesale.com.

Some of the most popular personalities that have worn the brand include World Lightweight Champion, BJ Penn, Pride Middleweight Champion, Dan Henderson, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, and WEC Champion Urijah Faber, which further gave rise to the brand in the market.

Bad Boy MMA

Before there was Tapout, Bad Boy was already there. Before MMA had become a popular sport around the world, Bad Boy was already known as a top brand of MMA clothing line from where it came.

According to fashion experts, Bad Boy originated from Brazil, which was one of the first countries to have practiced MMA. Because of the popularity of MMA in the country, Bad Boy quickly gained a lot of popularity, until MMA was introduced in the US that Bad Boy had started to expand globally.

UFC Clothing

Other than a popular name of an MMA organized event, UFC or the Ultimate Fighting Championship had also introduced their own MMA clothing brand under the same label. And similar to the popularity of UFC in the sporting industry, the brand of had also gained a lot of popularity from its many followers.

A champion in any sport has a huge target on their back, but when you fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the biggest and baddest men on the planet are gunning for you at all times; title shot or not. In the fifteen year, 97 event history of the UFC only 11 fighters have defended their title more than once. This list of elite fighters have justly earned their place in UFC history, as many critics and followers of the sport believe that one is not truly a champion until he has successfully defended his belt. Those that have done it more than once are unquestionably the cream of the crop. So who is the Greatest of All Time?

The following is the list of UFC fighters with multiple successful title defenses. You decide who the best of the best is. If the main criteria is the number of consecutive successful defenses; Anderson Silva is incontestably the king. If total number of defenses is your measuring stick, Matt Hughes would get the nod. And if the caliber of the champ’s competition is also a consideration; I think most will argue for Silva.

1. Matt Hughes (WW) – Title Defenses: 7
Matt Hughes was and is a UFC legend. He defended his title a total of seven times during two separate stints as the UFC Welterweight champion. During his first term as champ, he defended five consecutive times against the likes of Gil Castillo and Frank Trigg (lol). I’m having fun here, but on a serious note, Matt Hughes has beaten a load of quality fighters over his illustrious career, however, looking at his list of challengers it surely doesn’t compare to Anderson Silva’s.

2. Anderson Silva (MW) – Title Defenses: 6
After his last defense he is now the sole record holder for consecutive title defenses in the UFC. Despite all the unmerited criticism he garnered from UFC 97, he is still the UFC Middleweight champ and pound-for-pound king. The next time someone has the balls to get in the cage with him and try to IMPOSE their will on him, I bet he will continue to dominate. (read Anderson is the CHAMP!) His streak of defenses and the challengers he has beaten is nothing less than remarkable!

3. Tito Ortiz (LHW) – Title Defenses: 5
UGH!! It pains me to have to put the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” on this list, but the facts are the facts. Tito defended his Light Heavyweight title from 2000 to 2002, until Randy Couture took it away from him. This is when Randy gave the Bad Boy some well deserved corporal punishment in the form of a humiliating spanking…HA HA!!

4. Chuck Liddell (LHW) – Title Defenses: 4
The “Iceman” has one of the most impressive title defense streaks. Including his win over Randy Couture to gain the title, he won and defended the title with five consecutive TKO wins. Randy, Tito, Jeremy Horn and Renato Sobral all fell victim to the dynamite hands of Chuck during his reign as champion.

5. Pat Miletich (WW) – Title Defenses: 4
Miletich made his official UFC debut at UFC 16 and won the very first UFC Lightweight Tournament. In 2001, the UFC changed the weight class limits, creating the Welterweight. At UFC 17: Ultimate Brazil, Pat defeated Mikey Burnett and became the first UFC Welterweight champion. He went on to defend the Welterweight belt four times before losing it to Carlos Newton by submission at UFC 31.

6. Frank Shamrock (LHW) – Title Defenses: 4
“The Legend” was the Light Heavyweight champ from 1997 to 1999, until he forfeited his title due to retirement. The talent he faced was so so, but Shamrock’s wins were in impressive fashion - all by submission, TKO or KO in the first round, except for the beating he put on Tito, which ended by strikes in the fourth round.

7. Randy Couture (HW) – Title Defenses: 3
Randy “The Natural” Couture, possibly the most popular mixed martial artist of all time, has won the Heavyweight championship on four separate occasions (1 interim title), and has successfully defended it a total of three times. He also won the Light Heavyweight belt twice, but has never successfully defended it. While his win-loss record may not be as stellar as some of the UFC’s other great champions, to some he is the greatest of all time for his achievements in two weight classes at a more advanced age.

8. The following fighters have all defended their respective titles 2 times:
a. Tim Sylvia (HW) (read Tim Sylvia and the Willy Nilly Freak Show)
b. George St. Pierre (WW)
c. Rich Franklin (MW)
d. Andrei Arlovski (HW)

9. Royce Gracie (open) – Won 3 UFC Tournaments
Royce Gracie and the Gracie Jiu Jitsu family, for whom we owe much of everything to, was also a great champion. He won the UFC 1, 2, and 4 tournaments, which were night long, weight- classless events. It was not until UFC 16 that the title and belt system was implemented. Royce was also a great mixed martial artist, who many consider one of the greatest.

I think most will agree that this list of fighters is quite impressive, however, not all challengers were top contenders. Regardless of who the competition was, it is a feat in and of itself to win more than one or two fights in a row in the National Football League (NFL) of mixed martial arts, and even more so while wearing a belt.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the most popular organisation promoting Mixed Martial Arts matches in the United States. It has promoted pay-per-view events since 1993.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a sport that combines different forms of combat, such as boxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu. Originally UFC events involved one-night elimination tournaments with 8 or 16 fighters from different backgrounds competing to find out which form of martial art was most effective.

Eventually UFC competitors began training specifically for MMA matches, rather than concentrating on one fighting style. UFC events no longer have tournaments; instead they have a full fight-card as in boxing, and titles are held and defended by the reigning champion.

UFC matches are scheduled for three five-minute rounds, or five five-minute rounds in title matches. The main ways to win are by knockout, submission (signalled by a fighter tapping out), or a stoppage by the referee or doctor. If the match goes to the time limit, three judges score the fight on points. Most fighting styles are allowed, but there are many holds and moves which are illegal. These include headbutting, eye gouging, biting, downward elbow strikes, and kicking or kneeing the head of an opponent who is on the floor.

UFC is owned by Zuffa LLC, headed by Las Vegas tycoons Lorenzo Ferttita and Frank Fertitta. (Zuffa means ‘fight’ in Italian.) Other staff members include UFC president Dana White, matchmaker Joe Silva and announcers Mike Goldberg and Joe Silva. UFC matches are sanctioned by several state athletic commissions, and former Las Vegas commission head Marc Ratner is now vice-president of UFC.

UFC matches are made in five weight divisions:

* Heavyweight (206-265lbs). The current champion is Tim Sylvia. Top contenders include Andrei Arlovsky, Brandon Vera and Frank Mir.
* Light-heavyweight (186-205lbs). The current champion is Chuck Liddell. Top contenders include Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin.
* Middleweight (171-185lbs). The current champion is Rich Franklin. Top contenders include Anderson Silva, David Loiseau and Mike Swick.
* Welterweight (156-170lb). The current champion is Matt Hughes. Top contenders include BJ Penn, George St Pierre and Diego Sanchez.
* Lightweight (146-155lb). The title is currently vacant. The top contenders are Kenny Florian and Sean Sherk.

The UFC has a hall of fame with four inductees: Royce Gracie (who won three of the first four tournaments), Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn and Randy Couture (the only man two win a title in two different weight divisions).

Much of the UFC’s recent success was spurned by The Ultimate Fighter, a reality show on Spike TV. The show involves 16 relatively-unknown fighters (eight from each of two weight divisions) living in a house and being trained by existing UFC stars, with eliminations decided by weekly fights rather than public voting. The last two fighters in each division compete on a live television special with the winner getting a UFC contract. The first season was notable for a bitter rivalry between Josh Koscheck and Chris Leben, and a brutal final between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar. The latest season has two differences: for the first time, the competition is open to former UFC competitors, and the prize is a guaranteed title shot against the relevant champion.

Since the success of The Ultimate Fighter, Spike has shown several other UFC programmes, including Ultimate Fight Night (a full fight-card), UFC: All Access (an in-depth profile of a fighter looking at his training methods) and UFC: Countdown (a preview of an upcoming pay-per-view). This has led to very strong business for UFC, including achieving a record 775,000 buys for a pay-per-view clash between Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz, the coaches from the third season of The Ultimate Fighter.

With the big and steady increase in the popularity of Mixed Martial Arts around the world which is lead mostly by the originators for the sport the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), it has created an opportunity and demand for new clothing brands and companies. Today pretty much every brand of MMA clothes and fight wear as well as MMA training gear can be bought on and offline by mixed martial arts enthusiasts.

These diverse new brands of clothing offer products that range from MMA training and boxing gear to your everyday street clothes and gym attire. These new brands of MMA clothing can be seen all over the entire country. From all of the major cities to the tiniest little country town, you can see people wearing brands and designs like Tapout, Affliction, Hayabusa and many many more that were inspired by the UFC and the sport of MMA.

This new phenomenon that we call MMA ( Mixed Martial Arts ) has taken over the entire sports industry and dominated television and pay-per-view ratings which has produced many new MMA clothing and Fight Wear brands. These brands include companies like Tapout, Throwdown, Hitman Fight Gear, Affliction Clothing and many many more. The sport is evolving so much that the fighters are actually starting to come out with their own mixed martial arts clothing lines as well.

Out of all the Fight Wear brands it is safe to say that Tapout is by far the most famous and the most popular. Tapout Clothing was originated when the sport of mixed martial arts was in its beginning stages and they were able to grow their brand along side of the original promotion the UFC and the sport of MMA in general. Started by three guy friends in Southern California, their business has grown from ,000 in 1999 to over 0 million in 2008. Today you can purchase Tapout clothing at over 20,000 different retailers worldwide, not including the hundreds of various online vendors. Tapout has even had their own reality show on the Versus network.

As MMA fans we can only expect the sport to continue to grow at a rapid pace. It will not be long before mixed martial arts becomes one of the most popular sports in the world. Along with that will come a lot more MMA Clothes and Fight Wear brands. It will not be long before mixed martial arts fashion will be taking the world by storm!

Mix Martial Arts is a combat sport which combines few steps of different sports, including boxing, wrestling, tang se do, grappling, karate, tae kwon do and jujitsu. Many people consider it a perfect alternative to achieve a healthy and fit body. Some experts also say that the regular training session of this sport can make a big difference in toning and strengthening the muscles to a great extent. The body also becomes more flexible if one brings the effective steps of this sport into use on a regular basis. Obviously, with the usage of the mixed martial arts, the optimal positive results can be counted in terms of improving your hand eye coordination and increasing your stamina and strength as well.

Nobody can ignore the importance of mixed martial arts when he/she is excitedly seeking for a help to loss his/her weight fast because this sport also works as a program that burns fat within a very short span by engaging him/her in an extreme physical activity. On a serious note, these benefits can be availed by anyone who trains in Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, Karate or any of the arts. Frankly speaking, the seemingly positive results of mix martial arts can’t be counted not only on one’s physical body, but they also give relief to someone mentally and spiritually as well. And the most important thing is that they are incomparable to any other gym workouts. This is why people from different groups of age have now started to show a great interest in experiencing the benefits of this combat sport.

In 1993, the Mix Martial Arts came back in its modern form titled as “Ultimate Fighting Championship.” Now, most of the people consider it as a combat sport that follows the ideals of a fair play. All in all, in the present scenario, this combat sport has now become a perfect alternative to acquire a body with strengthened and toned muscles.

If you are just starting out in the sport of mixed martial arts, maybe you got your interest peeked by watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), or have just starting taking lessons and have already decided to start purchasing your mixed martial arts equipment. You have probably decided to start buying your MMA clothing and mixed martial arts equipment with either a pair of boxing gloves or a pair of MMA sparring gloves.

Most good mixed martial arts instructors will have already advised you that the most important article of mixed martial arts equipment is your gumguard. Your boxing gloves , your MMA sparring gloves, your kneepads, your thai pads and your groinguard although useful are nowhere near as important an article of mixed martial arts equipment as this. If your instructor has not advised you of this you may want to consider how safety concious your club really is.

When buying boxing gloves you should try to make sure you do not buy a pair that is too light; men should not buy 12oz boxing gloves for example. This is because if you buy boxing gloves that are too light not only do you risk hurting your sparring partner, but you will not be getting a proper work out. Cardiovascular exercise is important for MMA fighters and having a heavy pair of boxing will consequently help you become the ultimate fighter you can be.

Unlike MMA gloves, which do not vary much, boxing gloves are a type of mixed martial arts equipment that varies significantly in the style and colours available. This is something you might want to consider when buying boxing gloves. Brands such as Fairtex and Twins will offer you a large choice of boxing gloves and reputable stores such as FightstoreMMA will usually stock a wide variety of these manufacturers styles. Fightshorts have other advantages than just freedom of movement, which is why you see this type of MMA clothing worn in preference to the traditional Gi. In a MMA fight your opponent could catch hold of your Gi especially if fighting on the ground. This would make it harder for you to move. Fightshorts however are harder to hold onto than a Gi which is why this type of MMA clothing is prefered when sparring.

Alternatively, if you fancy buying from a brand featured on the Ultimate Fighting Championship you could try Tapout MMA gloves. You will often see these on the hands of UFC fighters because they have a sponsorship deal with the UFC. Although this is good marketing and some people prefer to wear endorsed fightwear, these articles of mixed martial arts equipment are of just as good quality when bought from brands such as Granite and Affliction as when bought from the Tapout brand.

After you have bought your boxing gloves and sparring gloves you may have decided to consider what you will wear on the mat when you are sparring. A lot of fighters prefer to wear specialist fightwear or mixed martial arts equipment to avoid injury.

Mixed Martial Arts is all about using any move or technique learned in basically any martial art to defeat an opponent, therefore it can be difficult to place its exact creation or inception in history. Of course, the earliest contact sport or martial art with very few rules (or a no holds barred concept) was called pankration and was started in Greece around the year 648 B.C., taking its place among other sports in the Olympic Games.

It can be safely said that while pankration may have been the parent sport of other full-contact combat styles, it was too early a form to have any direct influence itself. However, it has taken on many techniques from the sports and martial arts that pankration had spawned.

Wrestling is one of its greatest influencers and to the untrained eye, a Mixed Martial Arts competition or match can be mistaken for a modern wrestling match. It was during the late 1800′s that wrestling and boxing became popular and participants such as John L. Sullivan and William Muldoon were well known for some of their no holds barred antics.

Because of this, many people held anything goes matches and more often than not, the wrestler won. In Europe, Jiu Jitsu versus boxing matches were held, and sometimes, it was boxing versus other styles as well. There was definitely a demand for both people who wanted to study Mixed Martial Arts and observers who wanted to watch competitions for sport or show.

Not surprisingly, a major catalyst in the creation of Mixed Martial Arts was the one and only Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee formed his own styles by making use of different styles such as Karate, fencing, boxing, Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and more to allow him to use what he felt were the best defenses and the best attacks from each martial art. In addition to Bruce Lee, a prominent figure is a man by the name of Royce Gracie who in 1993 won the very first Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was after this that it gained a heavy cult following and began to spark interest across the globe.

As Mixed Martial Arts became more and more prominent, competitions and matches became commonplace in both the martial arts world and the entertainment industry. Students learned to borrow moves and techniques from each other to help each other discover what the best and most useful defenses and attacks were. Of course, a student must be trained in several different forms before they are ready to compete in a match or competition. The popularity and recognition that it has received thus far shows absolutely no signs of slowing down, in fact, the sport is becoming increasingly attractive to both spectators and students of Mixed Martial Arts.

What is MMA? The acronym stands for Mixed Martial Arts. This is a type of fighting that mixes a number of different techniques from various martial arts. It is sometimes called no holds barred fighting. Historically, mixed martial arts started around the late 1800s but it was not until the 1970s that MMA became popular through cinema .Bruce Lee and his series of Dragon films brought his unique combat style of fighting to worldwide attention. His style combined every kind of fighting from Jiu-Jitsu and karate to more western styles such as boxing.

Mixed martial arts were not recognized as a sport officially until 1992 with the introduction of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. One form of mixed martial arts, Pankration, which has its origins as an Olympic sport in Greece way back to 648 B.C. is currently under consideration for inclusion as an Olympic event. It combines the arts of both wrestling and boxing. Pankration has made a remarkable revival in the last few decades and particularly since the mid-1990s. This revival is mainly due to the increase in mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions. MMA is today one of the fastest growing sports disciplines which provides added impetus for it to be part of the Olympics.

The structure of MMA rules is still very rudimentary and non-standard. In fact, up until approximately ten years ago there were none at all. This at one point meant that mixed martial arts was a brutal combat sport which that posed a high health risk to anyone who took part. The approach of ‘anything goes’ resulted in many serious injuries for fighters.

The introduction of rules aimed to make certain injurious moves illegal. This included head butting, gouging of eyes and biting. Other areas that were deemed off limits were the groin, throat and kidney areas. There have been growing calls for a uniform set of rules; but because there is no global MMA governing body, each country has a different set of rules. Usually, professional fights have less strict rules than amateur bouts since amateurs are assumed to require more protection.

A mixed martial arts contest will consist of three stages. The first stage is stand-up fighting and includes kicking, punching, elbowing and kneeling techniques. The second stage is clinch fighting and entails holding your opponent to prevent them from hitting you. The final stage is ground fighting which is where you hold down and immobilize your opponent by.

The majority of MMA fighters wear small gloves when fighting. Some prefer to use open-finger gloves whilst others prefer closed ones, which are a bit like small boxing gloves. Sometimes the type of glove allowed will depend on the type of fight, which weight category the fight is under and in which country the fight is being staged.

There are different ways to win a mixed martial arts fight—from straight knockout (KO), technical knockout (TKO) and doctor intervention. Referees may end a contest if they believe that a fighter has taken enough punishment before serious injury is inflicted. Fighters can also be disqualified following a certain number of warnings or use of illegal moves.

UFC 123 on Saturday at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Mich., features a light heavyweight showdown between former champions, a score-settler between a pair of legends, and key crossroads matches for young and veteran talent alike.

Here’s a closer look at the main card, with analysis and picks.

UFC 123: Rampage vs. Machida

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson versus Lyoto Machida

The matchup: You would have trouble finding two styles more different than those of these former champs. Despite considerable wrestling chops and incredible strength, Jackson has become so strike-oriented since arriving in the UFC that fans who followed his Pride Fighting Championships exploits barely recognize him.

“Rampage” greatly depends on big power punches, a style that seems the perfect template for beating a guy such as Machida. With a mercurial style, odd angles and attacks, and uncanny movement, Machida will have a ton of options available to him. He flits in and out and side to side, maximizing his advantages. Jackson has always had trouble with kicks, and in performances such as the one he gave against Rashad Evans at UFC 114, he leaves observers wondering why he doesn’t take down his opponents more often. He basically let Evans outhustle him for two rounds before finally stepping it up in the third. By then, it was too late.

Navigating Machida’s mix of strikes, foot sweeps and weird combinations is akin to trying to hit a knuckleball pitcher on a day with strong winds blowing out. Jackson will chase around the karateka and try to land his famed right-hand counter, but Machida will prove too quick and elusive. Machida also might score a takedown or two off his strikes, in which case he will find himself in a more advantageous top position.

The pick: I like Machida in a bout that resembles a snake chasing a mouse. In this case, the snake gets nipped all night and never catches its prey: Machida by decision.

[+] EnlargeMatt Hughes
Mark J. Rebilas for ESPN.comMatt Hughes’ stand-up has improved, but he would be wise to take B.J. Penn to the mat.

Watch UFC 123 Live Streaming Video Online Here

B.J. Penn versus Matt Hughes

The matchup: Rubber matches are rare in MMA, especially among two iconic names such as Penn and Hughes. Hughes might not be in immediate title contention, but, ironically, he has looked better than ever in recent outings against Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida, illustrating again how much everyone else has improved in a division he once dominated. He seems more acclimated to the stand-up game than he was as champion, and he still has those vaunted wrestling chops.

The problem is that he is facing Penn, whose guard remains as potent as that of any fighter in MMA. Plus, when Penn is on his game, he can stifle almost anyone on the feet. He gave Hughes all sorts of trouble in their second match before he ran out of gas. (An injured rib was said to be the culprit.) However, Penn’s back-to-back losses to Frankie Edgar have left his immediate future in question. A third match with Hughes should motivate the Hawaiian to return to championship form.

The jump in weight to welterweight doesn’t figure to pose much of an issue for Penn, who will always give Hughes fits with his excellent stand-up and incredible ground game. The longer this one goes, the better it is for Hughes, as Penn has long had problems maintaining his form, especially at 170 pounds. Hughes needs to use his revamped stand-up, shooting jabs to counter Penn’s jab — a weapon he used to neutralize Sean Sherk at UFC 84. Hughes also should mix in leg kicks, an underrated and largely underused part of his arsenal, to keep Penn guessing. Penn has never been effective at checking kicks.

In top form, Penn has subtle head movement and MMA-oriented boxing that make him savantlike. Comfortable in the pocket and trading strikes, he has one of the sport’s best chins. Hughes ought to use the first round as a warm-up, eventually working to the clinch and ramming Penn against the cage before taking him down, following the blueprint set forth by Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94. The jury remains out on whether Penn’s losses to Edgar signal that his best days are behind him.

The pick: Hughes will have some tough moments and tricky submissions to deal with, but he probably will get Penn down at some point, keeping top position long enough to impress the judges en route to a close and perhaps controversial decision win.

Watch UFC 123 Live Streaming Video Online Here
Phil Davis versus Tim Boetsch

The matchup: Although they both possess college wrestling experience, Davis has a pedigree that ranks several notches up the chain. He was a four-time All-American at Penn State, meaning he finished among the top eight wrestlers nationally in his weight class every year, and he won a national championship in 2008.

Boetsch’s brawling style stands in stark contrast to that of most former college wrestlers — who seem more comfortable working on the ground, at least early in their careers. Perhaps best known for his rag doll toss of David Heath at UFC 81, Boetsch has won four fights in a row and will need every bit of that momentum to take out Davis.

Davis only loses this light heavyweight fight if he makes a boneheaded mistake and gets caught with a heavy kick or punch. Boetsch’s best chance is to lure Davis into an exchange, perhaps timing one of his kicks with a solid punch. Only seven fights into his professional MMA career, Davis continues to develop his striking — but he won’t need it here. He figures to take down Boetsch and work from the top.
